Extractions

What is an Extraction?

A tooth extraction is the removal of a tooth from its socket in the jawbone. While Dr. Teel will always aim to preserve your natural teeth, sometimes extraction is the best option to protect your overall oral health. The procedure can be simple (for teeth that are visible and easily accessible) or surgical (for impacted or broken teeth). Your comfort is our top priority, and extractions are performed with local anesthesia and, when needed, sedation to ensure a smooth experience.

When should you schedule an Extraction?

If you’re experiencing persistent tooth pain, swelling, or signs of infection, your dentist may recommend an extraction as part of your treatment plan. In other cases such as impacted wisdom teeth or orthodontic planning, Dr. Teel may suggest a proactive approach. After a thorough exam and x-rays, we’ll walk you through your options and help you understand what to expect before, during, and after the procedure.

Why are Extractions sometimes necessary?

Teeth may need to be extracted for a variety of reasons, including severe decay, infection, advanced gum disease, trauma, or overcrowding. In some cases, extractions are also done to make room for orthodontic treatment or to remove impacted wisdom teeth. Removing a problem tooth can prevent further complications, protect surrounding teeth, and pave the way for a healthier mouth.
